IS IT'S TIME FOR JOE TO GO?
STEINBRENNER OUTBURST!
"Enough is enough. I am
bitterly disappointed as I'm
sure all Yankee fans are
by the lack of performance
by our team. I expect Joe
Torre, his complete
coaching staff and the
team to turn this around."

Look Around
04.17.05....The Yankees are really off
to a terrible start.  So far they have 4
wins against 8 losses.

Predictably, George Steinbrenner is hot
under the collar about it, trying to
motivate his team to reach their full
potential.  His outburst Sunday made it
clear he expects long time Yankee
manage Joe Torre to get the team on
track.  But let me go a little further.
Let me ask
"Is it time for Joe to Go"?

I have to tell you my fuse is short
when it comes to Yankee baseball so it
should come as no surprise that I have
been calling for Joe to go for a couple
years.  Sure I root for him and the
Yankees 110% all season long. But at
the end of the last couple years I
thought it was time for Joe to Go.

Actually I was generous.  Because of
his recent success at that time and the
tragedy of 9-11 I was patient after the
Yankees lost in 2001 to Arizona.
When were eliminated in 2002 I started
grumbling but hey - you can't win
them all.  But then we failed to get the
championship in 2003.  That was the
final straw. Or really, the final bit of
evidence I needed.  It was time for Joe
to Go.  Last year the Yankees melted
down and let the Red Sox come back
in historic proportions. Just last week
Joe had the players stand on the steps
and applaud as Boston got their rings!
Yes thats classy, and very
sportsmanlike.  But thats the thing.
Joe has gotten too comfortable being a
good loser..

Let me explain.  Joe Torre has the Don
Shula Syndrome.  He is a living legend.
He has tons of cash, a beautiful home
and wonderful life.   I'm happy for
him.  He earned every cent of it.  But it
does not make for a good Manager.
(By the way Bobby Bowden of FSU
has this coaching handicap)

Look back at the recent winning
Managers in Baseball and Coaches in
football.  Almost all the time the
winning coach is the hungriest for the
win.  Someone on the 'up curve' of
their career. They have something to
prove.

Very rarely can someone hold the
same competitive drive that got them
to the top.  They can do a good job,
even great job - as Torre has.  But in
competition with a Manager and team
still hungry for the big prize - recent
history shows that Joe is not getting
the job done.

I can't blame him.  He likes the player
and they like him.  It is one well
organized, comfortable family.  They
have a lot of skill, work very hard and
always try their best.  But maybe they
are too comfortable. Too happy with
their lot in life.  Too content to fall
short and go home for the winter.
Thats human nature.  But this is
baseball

So sorry Joe. We love ya!  Your
always welcome in the Yankee world
and will always get all respect.  The
Hall of Fame, a statue in the outfield, A
Yankee Legend!
But right now, for the good of the
team,
It's time for Joe to Go.
