Sometimes it snows in April
What do you know! I was in the living room working on the computer Wednesday morning when I decided to check the weather forecast. It said it was snowing! Sure enough I go to the window and look out and they were right.

"A poor-quality video posted on the Internet
Wednesday in the name of an extremist group
claimed to show Iraqi insurgents dragging the burning
body of a U.S. pilot on the ground after the crash of an
Apache helicopter. The U.S. military said it could not
confirm the authenticity of the video". FOX NEWS
VIDEO OF G.W. BUSH WAVING MEXICAN FLAG FAILS TO TEMPER RIGHT WING MEDIA ATTACKS
|
"Michelle Malkin and other paranoid extremists view the waving of the Mexican flag as evidence of attempt on the part of Mexicans to "reconquer" the United States. They believe waving the flag of another country--even if you wave the flag of America as well--means your allegiance is split and you are un-American".STORY

UPDATE 8:14pm : UPS delivered my tickets tonight! more later..........
04.05.2006 I am still waiting for my Yankee tickets. I tried to call the office but the Yankee office phone system was down.
I think thousands of people are calling to ask where their tickets are. One positive thing (sort of) is that they changed
the mailing dates on their web site. It now says that many tickets were not mailed until this Monday. So as next
Tuesday's home opener quickly approaches, I wait along with many others.
One funny thing. I have to walk downstairs to check my mail. So I usually do it when I am getting home or when am
going out. Yesterday I checked the mail as I left the apartment later for work. The tickets weren't there so I decided to
call the Yankee office on the way to the subway. I wasn't sure of the number but guessed it was 1-800 Yankees. It is
not! But if you call that number you get a real funny recording telling you, in no uncertain terms, that it is NOT the number
for the Yankees so "don't call again". If you want a chuckle give them a call.
There is a lot of news out there and I have posted a few stories of interest to me. First, FOX News reports that a U.S.
Pilot's body was dragged through the streets of Iraq. When that happened in Somalia it was used as an example of the
incompetence of Bill Clinton and Defense secretary Les Aspin. Aspin resigned and Clinton never got any military
support. I guess we can expect the same treatment for the Bush team. Because if there wasn't, well...wouldn't that mean
that the attacks on Clinton and Aspin were simply partisan in nature and not real concern for our troops or our country.
Look for Rumsfeld to hand in his resignation and for Bush to loose support of the "pro-military" right wing media. Yeah,
right.
Next, on immigration we see the argument quickly falling to a lowest common denominator. Pity George Bush, who
helped the dumbing down and the hating up of America and now finds it turned on him. Once ignorance and prejudice
combine it is a hard to stop the momentum. President Bush wants to have a civil discussion on immigration. I agree but
c'mon, it's a bit late for him to ask the public to start having civil discussions. Sorry George, any credibility you might
have had in calling for a calm and reasoned discourse went the way of the South Carolin primary in 2000 (and many
other times since then - thanks Karl). The President is now the target of many of the hate mongers he pandered to on his
climb to power. Ironic huh. Yes, but more than that it is preventing us from having a serious discussion on this issue. In
a very real way, his pandering to the far right, is preventing him from being an effective President. What's the old
saying...when you sleep with dogs.
One common complaint by the right wing right now is the waving of Mexican flags during recent demonstrations. (I always
find it interesting and troubling how flags hold so much power in the minds of righties.) The first thing I thought of is how
these same Reds had no problems with Cubans waiving their flag during the Elien Gonzalez episode. The protesters
there were hailed as heroes. In fact, anyone who goes to South Florida see Cuban flags everywhere. Where's the
outrage? Nowhere because Cubans tend to vote Republican so they get a pass. Just in case anyone missed that
hypocrisy I wanted to point it out to my readers.
Finally, the news out of Afghanistan is troubling. Last month some guy converted to Christianity from Islam and was
almost killed. Now their new Foreign Minister says they support Palestinians over Israel. This after US politicians have
said they will do ANYTHING to defend Israel. Seems like a dangerous situation could result from that difference in
opinion. Plus, the Taliban is still active there. Some may still believe that he Iraq war did not take important resources
away from our struggle in Afghanistan, but the evidence seems to indicate otherwise. Lets hope that the situation there
doesn't slide back to where it was before we entered. Then the Iraq war will be seen as more than a disaster. It will be
true catastrophe.
