| YANKEES WIN HOME OPENER |
04.12.2006 I had a great time at the game. I got some great pics. Here they are. It was really quite a memorable day. I got
to the Stadium early saw batting practice and watched the seats fill up around me. It was a very exciting game with a late,
game winning home run by Yankee Captain Derek Jeter.
The people I sat with (and will sit with for the rest of the season) are very nice and a lot of fun. The seats I got were much
better than I anticipated. I got the middle priced tickets - not expensive at all - and ended up with an amazing seat behind
home plate just toward the third base side enough to be able to see inside the Yankee dugout. Perfect!
Just before the game started we had the National anthem and all but then they had some fighter jets "that had seen service in
Iraq", fly over. Now, having lived in Las Vegas I got the opportunity to see and even visit the Blue Angels, but these were not
show planes. They were fighters. They flew side by side right over Yankee Stadium. I actually did not enjoy that moment.
Not out of any anti military feelings - I just found it unnerving to have war planes fly side by side at 500 MPH just a couple
hundred feet over my head. One miscue and there would have been burning wreckage in the stands and on the fans. I hope
they only do that on opening day.
It was really amazing to be inside Yankee Stadium. After seeing it on TV my whole life, to actually be there was a bit mind
blowing. I am really lucky to have seen such a great game on such a picture perfect day. I could not have written a better
script for the day. I only hope that Tuesday is a sign of good things to come for the team this year.

04.11.2006 Well the game starts in just a few hours and I have to admit I tossed and turned all night. I have been waiting for
this day for a very long time.
Yesterday I bought a little transistor (are they still called that?) radio so I could listen to the game at The Stadium. I have
listened to the Yankee radio broadcasts for years and to listen while actually at The Stadium is part of this grand fantasy of
mine. Well I got home about 10 last night and the dang thing didn't work. You know radios are cheap..most were $5 or $6.
But nooo. I had to buy the $16 dollar portable radio just to be sure I got a good one. Serves me right.
When I finally admitted that it was the radio not working and not the batteries or my technological difficulty (took a surprisingly
long time) I went on a search. We have a lot of "stuff" in the apartment and I just knew there had to be another radio here.
After an hour of digging through boxes in the wee hours of the morning I found one! An old CD Walkman with a radio.
Shaking with excitement I loaded the batteries into the devise. (Reminded me of that kid in the Christmas Story loading the
BB's into his new gun). Anyway, THAT didn't work either. Needless to say I was a bit frustrated.
So I went to bed trying to convince myself that I really didn't want to listen to the radio at the game. I told myself that It would
be more authentic to go sans radio so I could take in all the noise and excitement of the live event. Blah, blah blah... The first
thing this morning I went back to digging through the boxes.
Sure enough I found a VERY old Cassette Walkman (WOW!) with a working radio!!! Horayyy!
So I have my radio, binoculars, camera, ticket and sunglasses. I even got directions to the stadium and found out it is a 30
minute walk! Very close (30 minute walk in NYC is nothing). So I am good to go. I may post after the game or wait until
tomorrow as I am tentatively scheduled to celebrate the Yankee victory and a certain watering hole (of course the theme can
be easily switch to commiserating a loss).
Opening Day 2006 at Yankee Stadium and I'll be there. Fantastic!
