FLORIDA OFFICIALS SAY THEY WILL
CLOSE JUVENILE BOOT CAMPS
Favorites
Tony Snow is in as White House spokesman.  Compared to Scott McClellan, he will be much more personable and
coherent.  Whether he will be able to disguise the same old message remains to be seen.  Any good Snow might do
is sure to be erased when Bush steps forward to speak on is own.  There are many in the Republican party who
really like Tony Snow and would like to see him run for president.  During the GOP convention Snow was announced
to the Young Republican group this way... "Wouldn't you like to this man run for President one day"? The easily
excitable crowd of young faces were under whelmed actually, but it did illustrate that some very influential people in
the party would like to see Snow move up fast.  Maybe that was a factor in his selection.  Many are pointing out that
Snow has disagreed with the President. They try to say that it indicates a willingness of the White House to allow
dissent.  Don't buy it. Tony Snow will say anything to advance his own career. On radio, to survive, he has had to
disagree with Bush from time to time.  I really don't see it as important that he occasionally disagreed with the
President. What is more important to me is his willingness to repeatedly make statements  which
disagree with the
truth.

The boot camp program looks dead in Florida.  A good idea.  If the videotape showed anything, it was a cavalier
attitude toward beating and watching a young man die. On top of that, there are questions as to why the initial
autopsy was wrong, slanted to protect the officers. While I hope that an excruciating detailed investigation of the
Sheriff's office takes place, I am not holding my breath.  If one part of the criminal justice system is exposed as
corrupt it might just show that the entire system is.  They had to work together to try to cover up this case.  I doubt
they are about to let the whole truth come out now.

Gas prices are sky high but as a subway rider (we're called straphangers) it hasn't affected me - yet.

Jim Towey, who used to be my boss years ago, has resigned as head of the 'White House Office of Faith-Based and
Community Initiatives'. Now mainstream religious leaders are using this opportunity to
criticize the goals of this Bush
Administration program.

Just because the Bush administration is misguided and incompetent doesn't mean they aren't still moving ahead with
yet more freedom crushing activities.  There is a new movie about how the federal government is
spending millions
on the war on drugs despite the many other real problems we have in the country and the world.  It's important to
remember that these people are driven by a religious like fervor for their social engineering.  Nothing will stop them
as long as they hold power.
