Hideki Matsui, the Yankees' left fielder who had played in 1,768
consecutive games, fractured his left wrist while trying to catch a
ball hit by Mark Loretta in the Yankees' 5-3 loss to Boston Red
Sox.

It's very early Friday morning and I am just back from the Yankee game.  It was historic but for the wrong reasons.
Hideki Matsui, the New York left fielder and one of my top 3 favorites, broke his wrist.

'It was a horrific collision of ball, glove and ground, and Matsui's wrist was the victim. The ball
popped loose as Matsui's wrist bent backward upon hitting the ground. With the glove off, his left
hand dangled awkwardly in the air. He found the ball and flung it in, but grabbed his wrist in pain.

As stomach-turning injuries go, Matsui's could rank with the broken legs of Joe Theismann on
"Monday Night Football" and Tim Krumrie in the Super Bowl. The twist was that it happened to the
foremost ironman in baseball".

I bought the tickets at the last minute after receiving an e mail from the Yankees about their availability. They were
very, very, very high up in left field.  In fact I could look DOWN at the TOP of the foul poll!  And steep too.  It took me a
little while before I could even look at the field - it was dizzying.  The crowd was a lot more raucous than at any other
game I have been at.  The Red Sox - Yankee rivalry is real and it is bitter.  There were quite a few Boston people there
and the cops stayed busy.  At least 5 people were arrested in my section alone.

I have been so busy at work I haven't been able to watch the news for a couple days. I saw the headlines about the
phone record collection but have to see what that's all about.  I imagine I will have something to say and write about it
soon.
