Personally, I think someones private life should stay that way - private! I argued this all during the witch hunt days of the Clinton administration. But all I heard (and saw) in return were Republicans expressing outrage at his behavior and their professed love of something they labeled "family Values". In the very unlikely chance they meant what they said these same voters may have difficulty finding a Republican candidate to vote for President in 2008. As the linked article shows, it is the Republican candidates who have a long history of what was considered in the 1990's to be immoral behavior. But, don't hold your breath You will recall that Bill Clinton's non-service in Viet Nam was a HUGE issue in 1992. Since then, the chicken hawks have taken over the GOP and nary a word is heard from their flock. They may support the vague concept of "family values" but only as far as it serves their partisan needs.
Lurking just over the horizon are liabilities for three Republicans who have topped several national, independent polls for the GOP's favorite 2008 nominee: Sen. John McCain (affair, divorce), former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (affair, divorce, affair, divorce), and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani (divorce, affair, nasty divorce). Together, they form the most maritally challenged crop of presidential hopefuls in American political history.
I think what the Taliban is doing -- and it's predictable -- is that they are trying to test in the south, where the U.S. forces are handing over to NATO...But A, it's predictable, and B, in the encounters, as you know, the Taliban fighters have overwhelmingly been losing. Now, I think it is predictable...you can expect there to be pushback by the Taliban. Tony Snow 6/2006
And as a result of the United States military, Taliban no longer is in existence. And the people of Afghanistan are now free. (Applause.) In other words when you say something as President you better make it clear so everybody understands what you're saying, and you better mean what you say.
President George W. Bush 9/2004
While we were looking away.. Far away in Iraq - the Taliban - you remember them, they are the ones that actually attacked us on 9-11, are back to fighting strength in Afghanistan. This, after the President proclaimed the war won and the Taliban defeated. I know my right wing friends hate it when the President is criticized but really, how can anyone not be outraged by this?
We have the Republicans wrapping themselves in the flag and labeling the Democrats as weak on defence, actually allowing our attackers to regroup and rebuild. They were able to do this because of our governments decision to invade Iraq. In their arrogance, and willingness to endanger young American lives, the Bushies abandoned the full effort in Afghanistan, leaving a smaller number of troops than necessary there, and sent our young people to a country which had nothing to do with 911. Now we have terrorists in both Iraq and Afghanistan, and the good will of the world, built up over the past 100 years, has evaporated because of the inexplicable behavior of the Bush Administration.
The mainstream media and too many US citizens are allowing this to happen and the USA is slowly but surely becoming a world pariah run by mean sprites dolts who would seem to be Hell bent on destroying this once great nation.
SCREECH SELLS SHIRTS
Comments
Dustin Diamond, "Screech" from the TV show 'Saved by The Bell', is trying to sell nearly 30,000 shirts — at $15 or $20 (autographed) each — to supplement the income he makes as a standup comic so he doesn't have to move from his Port Washington home, about 25 miles north of Milwaukee.
The T-shirt has a photo of Diamond holding a sign that says, "Save My House." The back of the shirt reads, "I paid $15.00 to save Screeech's house." The third "e" was added to get around copyright laws, he said.
He's selling the shirts on his Web site: http://www.getdshirts.com
I find it interesting to compare the 1999-2000 numbers (Clinton) Administration with the 2005 & 2006figures (Bush). While world popularity is not the most important thing, this chart should sound alarm bells for anyone who realizes that the goodwill of the world is an essential ingredient for a superpower to have if they are to be an effective agent of positive change.
REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES FOR PRESIDENT NOT 'FAMILY VALUES' FRIENDLY
