I was watching my TIVO'ed recording of Meet The Press last night and
saw Barack Obama.  Like a lot of people, I am very impressed by him
and have been happy to watch his star rise so fast.

Tim Russert, host of MTP, characteristically played "gotcha" with
Obama as he does with most of his guests.  Of late, Obama has been
visiting places that would lead people to believe that he is considering
a run for President in 2006.  Russert, played a tape of Obama on MTP
earlier this year, in which he stated emphatically that he would not run
for President in 2006. Has he, Russert asked, changed his mind?

Refreshingly, Obama admitted that
he had and that he was
considering a run after all.  It was a new experience watching him
squirm a bit when confronted with his earlier statement.  For the first
time he looked a little like a politician. An honest politician, but a
politician all the same.

The country certainly needs someone who has many of the
characteristics that Obama has.  He appears to be honest,
straightforward, thoughtful, and civil in tone.  He is intelligent, articulate
and carries with him a certain gravitas.  All of these characteristics will
be desperately needed after 8 years of George W. Bush.  These are
traits that we will need in our President if this country is going to ever
get back on the right track.
IS HE READY?
But is Obama ready?  I am not yet convinced.  I have always thought that nothing can substitute for real experience.
George W. Bush had no record of professional success and look what happened.  I also had misgivings over the years
with other candidates like John Edwards, Al Sharpton and most of the nut cases that run on the GOP side (Gary Baur,
Alan Keyes, etc)

Yes, Barack Obama has so much of what we need.  But just 2 years ago he was a little know state representative from
Illinois.  For him to rise so far, so fast make me a little uneasy.  I am not saying that I would not support Obama or that I
won't change my mind in a year or so.  I remain open minded on this.  But so far, while I am very impressed by the man, I
am not yet sure that he is ready for the office of President of the United States.

DEMOCRATIC
CONVENTION
PART  1
PART  2
Barack Obama was
still only a candidate
for the US Senate
when he gave this
stirring speech at the
Democratic National
Convention in 2004.

Many credit this
speech as the moment
that propelled this little
know Illinois Legislator
into the national
spotlight
