Senator Bill Nelson visits with Syrian President Assad - says cooperation on Iraq is possible
I was pretty surprised to hear about this.  Seems he's taking some of the Iraq Study Group recommendations
seriously.  While Bush hesitates Bill Nelson steps up.  Good for him.  His overture may or may not work, but at least
he is trying something.

PRESIDENT BUSH BEGINS DELIBERATING A 'PLAN B' FOR IRAQ
So President Bush is starting his long deliberations on the new course for Iraq and it reminds me of an interview I saw a few
months ago.  George Stephanopoulos was interviewing the President and asked him if he had thought about a possible
'Plan B' for Iraq.  Bush said he hadn't - because Plan A was going to work.  He looked annoyed at the very question.
Pressed by Stephanopoulos on the issue,  the President mumbled something about worrying about it if he ever needed to.

Wasted time. He had so much faith that what he oversaw would work out perfectly - he didn't bother to ponder alternatives
along the way. It was 'Stay the Course', until it wasn't.  So now we wait while he
starts the process of coming up with a Plan
B.  Sorry troops.  Sorry families.  Sorry Iraqis.  But really, who could have anticipated it?

(And that picture was taken on Wednesday.  What Rumsfeld still hanging around for.  Git out Rummy!)
U.S. President George W. Bush said
Wednesday he plans to consider his
options before deciding on a strategy
change for Iraq.

Although the White House had
initially suggested Bush would deliver
a speech on Iraq strategy before
Christmas, he said Wenesday he has
decided to delay it until early next year.

"I will not be rushed into making a
difficult decision … a necessary
decision," the president told reporters
after 90 minutes of consultations at
the Pentagon in Washington.
HELP IS ... NOT QUITE ... ON THE WAY
JOHNSON DEATH COULD PUT DICK IN CHARGE  With Senator Tim Johnson (D. South Dakota) recovering from brain surgery the balance of power in
the U.S. Senate could hinge on his survival.  If Johnson were to die, The Republican Governor of South Dakota would appoint a replacement. If he
puts in a GOP crony, that would tie the Senate at 50/50, put Vice President Dick Cheney in charge and give the GOP control of the Senate.  First, lets
wish the Senator a speedy recovery.  Next, the Governor should know that if he were to go against the will of the people in his state and the nation by
appointing a Republican there will be Hell to pay.  That blatant act of partisanship  would not be tolerated without a long and vicious fight.
